Investing in a better world
Private investor in early-stage climate tech startups, aka business angel. Over the last 5 years, I’ve invested in 24 startups, often university spin-outs with a technical innovation which has the potential to limit global warming, for example with improved batteries, CO2 capture, or renewable energy.
Before investing, I was an entrepreneur for 19 years, co-founding two companies which are still running successfully. The profits of one of those companies I now use to invest.
What differentiates me from many other investors is that I can step in at a really early stage, much earlier than most VCs. Another differentiator is my technical background: I studied physics, and this helps me to understand the technical innovations of the startups.
Apart from money, I offer my experience to founders of startups, for example reviewing their go-to-market strategy, investor pitch, or team composition. And I can introduce them to VC investors in the next round.
I have done this for startups focused on innovative clean energy production (Oceans of Energy, Renaissance Fusion, Yellow-SiC), battery technologies (LeydenJar, Eexion, Powall, Inlyte Energy, Aqualith), e-mobility (Maeve, Tiler, Urban Ray), green chemicals (H2Pro, AES, Radical Dot), precision fermentation (Brevel, Nutropy), CO2 capture (Ucaneo, Mitico) & sequestration through biochar (Bio-Logical), and industrial decarbonization (HyperHeat, Co-reactive). Each of these has the potential to disrupt their industry when scaled up.
I also invested in the climate tech venture builder Marble Studio, in aquaculture investor Aqua-Spark and in some PV and biogas projects.
If you are the founder of a similar company in the climate tech space, looking for (pre-) seed funding, please send me your pitchdeck, or make contact through linkedIn.
